There is so much advise out there for self improvement that it is overwhelming.  So many claims:
“Do  these billionaire secret hacks”
“Do these 3 things to be a bad ass leader”
“Follow these 5 self-care routines for success”
“Wake up at 4AM and do this…”
“Follow these steps to put in 18 hour work days, and feel energized”
Different schools of thought and different remedies of things that work for some and not others.
Over the course of my career I have tried many things to improve myself, my leadership, and my business.
Soooo I am going to play along.  Here is my list of things I do that seem to be a common denominator with many “successful” people I look up to and learned from.
Take Care Of Yourself
If you are reading this you are most likely in healthcare and know how important this is and don’t practice it😂.  There is no denying it that taking care of yourself is the foundation to your life.  There is no set plan for everyone, but a good self-care paln should include:
  1. Good night sleep
  2. Exercise routine
  3. Stress reduction / mindfullness / mediation practice
  4. Time away from work and with loved ones
Carve Out Creative “Thinking” Time
Call it what you want but it is necessary as a leader.  Be it a 3 hour block or a full day… start with something and adjust as needed.
No phone calls, no emails, no distraction
Give yourself time for freestyle thinking, planning, solving…  this is not a recess from work, but a different way to approach work and leadership.
It very well could be the most productive time of your week.
Respect Your Calendar (which is your time protector)
Be efficient, group meetings close together, group clinical time, avoid gaps of free time that are too short to get something done and too long that they destroy productivity.
Organize Your To-Do List
Good old fashioned sticky notes, a journal, an online calendar, or virtual assistant… Whatever works for you.  I personally track on my Google calendar and utilize a small journal to actually write things down.  The act of writing activates more senses and seems to allow things to stick better.

Night Time JournalingClear your mind of worries and concerns.  Write whats on your mind before you go to bed.  Get it out of your head so you can get a better night sleep, and so you are prepared for the next day.
Delegate
As I said many times, you do not have to do everything yourself. If you have a team working for you, utilize their strengths and passions to unload your responsibilities. That’s the benefit of being a business owner. That is hard to do for a lot of us, but it’s absolutely essential because we can’t do everything nore should we try.
I hope this helps.
