Finder, Minder, Grinder, Binder

Most new private practice owners unknowingly try to become four people all at once:
The finder
The Minder
The grinder
The binder
This classification was originally developed by management expert David Maister.  The framework, describes the key roles inside successful professional service businesses.
The Finder brings in opportunities.
The Minder manages people and relationships.
The Grinder performs, the technical work.
The Binder connects the vision, the culture and the business.
Most PT owners start off by trying to do all of them at the same time. Treat patients,  manage staff, market the business, pay the bills, handle the operations, build referral relationship, and solve every problem that arises. For a season, it works, not well but it will work, but it eventually becomes exhausting and very unsuccessful… leading to burnout.
Another big mistake I see is that said owners continue to operate as primarily a grinder for way too long and, in my opinion, they do it because that’s what they’re familiar with. It feels safe for them. Clinical work is familiar, leadership is uncomfortable, marketing is foreign and delegation feels risky.  You can still Grind, but if you stay as a primary grinder, things will suffer.  The business cannot run and scale if everything depends on one person.
Here is a mindset shift…
”YOU WERE NEVER MEANT TO DO THEM ALL FOREVER”
Healthy growth happens when owners gradually build a team around these roles and evolve from doing everything into true leadership.  I see this challenge constantly with private practice owners across the country and honestly most of them are far more capable to lead than they realize they’re just overloaded.
I see it way too often.  Here’s a quick tip:
What role do you like the least or the one that occupies too much of your time?
Do you have a staff member able take this on?
Delegate and then in 30 days, free up the time and energy your business deserves.
